Ana and Terese have developed a bike helmet that is fashionable, comfortable, and most importantly, completely invisible! It’s called a Hövding, and is the solution to decades of helmet hair and churlish snickers from the cool kids. It is a helmet worn around your neck, not your head, and it works very similarly to a car air bag.
The airbag inflates and surrounds the head in case of an accident. The airbag consists of an inner and an outer hood, attached together by straps. It’s made in an ultra-strong nylon fabric that won’t rip when scraped against asphalt. The way the hood is designed and folded into the collar ensures that it will inflate quickly and safely. It takes about 0.1 seconds to inflate and the airbag will be fully inflated before head impact. Hövding protects nearly all of the head while leaving the field of vision open.
In the event of a bike collision or being thrown off your bike, the helmet inflates and protects your entire neck and skull. Otherwise, as long as you aren’t punching yourself in the Hövding, the helmet will simply appear to be a fashionable scarf to any curious onlookers. The Hövding is cooler, dramatically safer, and has 100% more usb charging outlets than any traditional helmet on the market.
The two students created the invisible helmet in an attempt to make riding bikes safer so that more people would start using bicycles as their primary mode of transportation.
