  • The Power Of Hemp Seeds

Did you know that hemp seed is one of the most nutritional and highest/most digestible protein sources that exist?

And the best part? It tastes amazing!

I know what you’re thinking. Either, come on dude, you’re just a hippy who likes to get high and eat at the same time; hemp seed just kills two birds with one stone. Or, c’mon dude, shut up and pass it.

Well hear me out happening hipster, because hemp seed might just end up blowing your traditional diet right out of the cosmos. First, hemp seed will not get you high. Industrial hemp itself contains extremely little THC (.05% – 1%), the compound that destroys food pantries and makes CSPAN hilarious. Most commercial hemp products, like Nutiva brand hemp seed, contain no THC at all. As a comparison, ‘marijuana’ has a THC content of somewhere between 3% and 20% (depending on if your dealer is James Franco or your cousin’s smelly roommate). Although marijuana and hemp are both cannabis plants, they are only relatives. To say they are the same is like saying a grey hound and a shih tzu are the same dog. The bottom line is that no matter how much hemp seed you pour down your gullet, it won’t make you high, just healthy.

And speaking of health, hemp seed is downright full of it!

Here is a list of what makes hemp seed so great, found on this fantastic site here:

    Hemp contains:

    * All 20 amino acids, including the 9 essential amino acids (EAAs) our bodies cannot produce.
    * A high protein percentage of the simple proteins that strengthen immunity and fend off toxins.
    * Eating hemp seeds in any form could aid, if not heal, people suffering from immune deficiency diseases. This conclusion is supported by the fact that hemp seed has been used to treat nutritional deficiencies brought on by tuberculosis, a severe nutrition blocking disease that causes the body to waste away.
    * Nature’s highest botanical source of essential fatty acid, with more essential fatty acid than flax or any other nut or seed oil.
    * A perfect 3:1 ratio of Omega-6 Linoleic Acid and Omega-3 Linolenic Acid – for cardiovascular health and general strengthening of the immune system.
    * A superior vegetarian source of protein considered easily digestible.
    * A rich source of phytonutrients, the disease-protective element of plants with benefits protecting your immunity, bloodstream, tissues, cells, skin, organs and mitochondria.
    * The richest known source of polyunsaturated essential fatty acids.

And guess what? It gets better!

Hemp seeds are 25% protien, second only to soy in the plant kingdom.  The reason hemp is preferred over soy is because soy contains a high amount of phytic acidan anti-nutrient that prevents your body from absorbing certain minerals.  Hemp seeds contain NO phytic acid! (phytic acid is actually a really interesting compound.  It has a great amount of health benefits and detriments, and is a source of controversy regarding its proper level of intake in my own mind. For more information start here.)

Furthermore, hemp seeds contain vitamin E, phytosterols (cancer fighting), fiber, magnesium, iron, zinc, and potassium.

This article has even more amazing information. It states that because hemp protein is 65% globulin edistin, and also contains albumin, it is very similar to the blood plasma already coursing through our bodies. This makes it the most easily digestible source of protein that we have ever found.

Why is that so great? It means less waste and greater efficiency. You can eat less and get even more out of what you put into your system.

    The article explains that:

“Hemp is not unique in having all the essential amino acids in its embryonic seed. Flax seeds also contain all the essential amino acids as do many other seeds in the plant kingdom. What is unique about hemp seed protein is that 65% of it is globulin edistin. That is the highest in the plant kingdom.

Globulins are one of seven classes of simple proteins. Simple proteins are constructed from amino acids and contain no non-protein substances. Globulins are in seeds and animal blood. Edistins are found in seeds: serum globulin is in blood. Edistins are plant globulins. And globulins along with albumins are classified as globular proteins. All enzymes, antibodies, many hormones, hemoglobin and fibrogin (the body converts fibrogin into non-soluble, fibrin, a blood clotting agent) are globular proteins. They carry out the main work of living.

Albumin, globulin and fibrogin are the major types of plasma proteins. Plasma is the fluid portion of blood that supplies nutrients to tissues. And the three protein types: serum albumin, serum globulin and fibrogin, compose about 80% of plasma solids. These plasma proteins serve as a reservoir of rapidly available amino acids should any body tissues be in need.”

    Here’s the break down chap:

    The Hemp Formula

    hemp seed= healthier cells= healthier tissue= healthier body= healthier + happier YOU!

To wrap this up, I’d like to share a list of information provided by the North American Industrial Hemp Council found here. I’m not 100% positive how accurate all of this information is, but it is interesting nonetheless and worth further investigation.

I would also like to add to this list, and to your ideas for further investigation, that hemp oil has been showing a great deal of results in not only preventing many forms of cancer, but also curing it. Here are some great sites and videos to get started: 1234

  • The Effect Of Agriculture On The Planet

The Effect Of Agriculture On The Planet

This is such an important TED talk! So many people, including myself, do not realize the effect that something as vital as agriculture has on the planet. We need to practice more efficient agriculture, and we need to act quickly. Some examples of potential solutions are vertical farming, buying more locally grown foods, dramatically altering our diets, and growing food ourselves. Even in urban settings, more and more people are realizing that not only is growing their own food fun, it is healthier for themselves and for the Earth.

You can also refer to one of my earlier posts, Edible Landscapes, for more information regarding solutions.

Morality In Animals: Chimpanzees That Risk Their Own Lives

Morality in Animals is a TED talk by Frans de Waal that documents some very interesting findings regarding how animals exhibit what we think of as morality.

It is so interesting seeing animals behave in ways that philosophers have always imagined to be strictly ‘human.’ This information may help end the sordid ways we treat other species, and our own.

An article from The New York TImes continues the discussion of morality in animals with their article on primate behavior.  It also remarks that

chimpanzees, who cannot swim, have drowned in zoo moats trying to save others. Given the chance to get food by pulling a chain that would also deliver an electric shock to a companion, rhesus monkeys  will starve themselves for several days.

These animals sound even more moral than most humans I know.

Why do we have zoos again?

  • Life, It’s All Over The Place

Life, It’s All Over The Place

UFOs, aliens, de-materialization, anti-gravity, velocities beyond that of light; it’s all incredibly fascinating as well as being some fantastic enigmas. I’ve just finished watching a movie on Google Videos entitled UFO: The Greatest Story Ever Denied. It documents a myriad of possible evidence, physical and spoken, that sheds some light on the existence of extra-terrestrial life, as well as the knowledge the human race currently and historically has had of life beyond our little planet.  The presenters in the video are not Joe the farmer by the way.  They hold such titles as brigadier general, former chief executive of NSC, astrophysicist, varying classes of military, including black ops, and more.

I think it’s a bit naive and downright ignorant to think that out of all the infinite space that the cosmos entails, Earth is the only planet that harbors intelligent, let alone minimally complex life. The very thought that life would be so rare is ignorant in and of itself. Life is found everywhere on this planet, even places where, by definition, it shouldn’t exist.

Did you know there are tiny organisms living in sulfuric acid within most limestone caves inside of the Earth? They even consume iron, and use the element as a building block for its cellular protein! How weird is that?? Very weird, which is exactly the point. Just because it’s difficult to imagine a life form that doesn’t breathe oxygen and isn’t bound by the traditional hierarchical consumption of sunlight (the food chain) does not rule out its existence. Some life forms even redefine what we think of as normal geometry in life.

And check this: scientists have speculated that it is not out of the realm of possibility that Venus, a planet once thought of as inhospitable for life could in fact be teeming with it!

All it takes is a bit of imagination and observation, and suddenly the universe seems far less lonely, and a whole lot more active!

Did you know you can heat your water using a compost pile?  Me neither. Compost water heating is fortunately becoming much more well known.  Paul Wheaton explains how he used compost to heat water for his shower.

Cornell University discusses the physics of compost heating and explains:

Compost heat is produced as a by-product of the microbial breakdown of organic material. The heat production depends on the size of the pile, its moisture content, aeration, and C/N ratio

A single compost pile can be used to make steaming hot water for over 500 showers!

  • I.R.S Releases Tax Return of the 400 Richest Americans

I.R.S Releases Tax Return of the 400 Richest Americans

The I.R.S has released the tax returns for the 400 richest Americans.  The returns reveal that 122 have paid less than 15% in income tax.  6 of them paid none.  Zero.  Squat.

There is a huge controversy over the fact that Mitt Romney has refused to release tax returns more than two years old.  Although there is no proof that he has avoided paying the same amount of income tax the average middle class working man and woman pays, there is no evidence to prove otherwise either.

Many have argued that for someone that makes millions of dollars a year like Mitt Romney it would be impossible to avoid paying any income tax at all.  According to the I.R.S, it is very possible.  In fact, it is a proven reality.

This article posted in the New York Times goes into detail regarding the methods and loopholes the elite use to pay minimal to no taxes at all on their various forms of income.

“Taxes, after all, are dues that we pay for the privileges of membership in an organized society.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

Doesn’t that mean we’re supposed to kick them out of the club?

  • Cannabis Protects Brain From Damage While Binge Drinking

Cannabis Protects Brain From Damage While Binge Drinking

The benefits of ingesting marijuana is common knowledge, as are the dangers of alcohol consumption.  According to a recent study, the benefits of marijuana may even include protecting against the brain damage alcohol causes.

The study showed that “marijuana may have some neuroprotective properties in mitigating alcohol-related oxidative stress or excitotoxic cell death.”

The same government that preaches anti-potaganda, Merica, even has a patent on cannabis due to its neuroprotective properties.

“Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties, unrelated to NMDA receptor antagonism. This new found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and HIV dementia. Nonpsychoactive cannabinoids, such as cannabidoil, are particularly advantageous to use because they avoid toxicity that is encountered with psychoactive cannabinoids at high doses useful in the method of the present invention”

Turns out the dope they claim kills us happens to benefit our lives in some pretty dope ways.
