Electronic Brain Implants Increase Intelligence

Scientists have successfully improved the thinking ability in primates through an electronic brain implant in the cerebral cortex. The decision making abilities of the primates were restored, and in many cases improved.
The scientists trained rhesus monkeys over the course of two years to gain a 75% efficiency in a basic image matching game. After mapping the monkeys’ brains with probes in the cerebral cortex, the began step two.
They got the monkeys cranked up on cocaine. No, seriously. While under the effect of the cocaine, the monkeys’ score on the matching game dropped by 20%. But, by stimulating the correct neurons with the probes, the monkeys’ scores returned to the 75% level. When the scientists activated the probes under normal conditions, the scores improved to unprecedented levels.
Scientists believe this is the beginning of truly and permanently helping victims of brain trauma return to their previous selves. It could also lead to hyper intelligent humans.
Don’t be surprised if newborns start explaining quantum entanglement to their parents. That’s just the implants doing their job.

New Zealand Hobbit Coins are Legal Tender

New Zealand has begun to distribute gold coins with Dwarvish and English inscriptions depicting pictures of various Tolkien characters in anticipation for the first installation of the new Hobbit Movie.
Most of the coins have a retail value of $3027 but are only worth $10 at face value. They are also offering $1 coins worth just over $29.
I’m confident all true Tolkien fans will be investing in these invaluable treasures and heading to the Prancing Pony for some quality belligerence.

The Politician Who Donates 90% of His Salary to Charity

comunidad-uruguaya-peru.blogspot.com No my American friends,
surprisinglyhe is not from the United States. José Mujica, who donates 90% of his salary to charity, is the president of Uruguay. He is known in his nation as the poorest president, ‘el presidente mas pobre.’Hard to believe? It’s true. He is the most generous president in the world, receiving $12,500 a month as salary, but only keeping $1,250. According to Mujica, whose biggest expense and only personal asset is a $1,945 Volkswagen Beetle, he has enough. He reminds those who inquire about his generosity that
“I do fine with that amount; I have to do fine because there are many Uruguayans who live with much less.”
Mujica is a former Rebel who believes that power does not come from the top, but from the hearts of the people. He is a vegetarian with no bank account and no debt, and his favorite thing in the whole world is “the companionship of his dog.”
Under the direction of Mujica, Uruguay has become known as one of the least corrupt countries in the world, ranking at #20 of 174 in 2012. His party has also taken strong steps to legalize personal use of cannabis in order to put an end to gang violence and to provide a safe and natural medicine to the people. Sounds like a sensible man with rational ideas indeed.

Uruguay to Legalize Marijuana

Uruguay is strongly pushing to pass a law that would allow a state monopoly on the production and distribution of marijuana. This would make Uruguay the first nation to sell cannabis to its citizens directly. The government claims that it is an attempt to end violence and ensure that cannabis users have a safe and regulated product. The new push is being led by the newly elected regime lead by Jose Mujica.
According to Sebastian Sabini, the president of the parliamentary commission:
“We’re putting this forward as international policy. The war on drugs has failed. There are more consumers and more violence. Uruguay is opening up a new path.”
Uruguay is predominantly interested in separating cannabis from hard drugs like cocaine and heroine as they believe by doing so less people will become addicted to the hard drugs.
The United Nations is concerned because the law is a breach of the 1961 convention on narcotics, but the Uruguayan government stresses that the global war on drugs has utterly failed in every way. Why continue obeying a decision if it is only making things dramatically worse?
Interestingly, marijuana legalization activists are labeling the move as totalitarian and urging the government to also legalize home cultivation. Additionally, Uruguay has stated that it will still be a illegal for foreigners to purchase cannabis as they do not want to create a country fueled by drug tourism.
Uruguay, like countries all around the world, has recognized that the current global policies on drugs have allowed governmental corruption, gangs to become more powerful and force people to look for cheaper, more widespread, albeit far more dangerous sources of drugs.
The world is long past due for a drastic change.

Iceland Arrested Their Criminal Bankers, Economy Booming

In the United States, the bankers who were responsible for the financial crisis were allowed to collect multi-billion dollar bonuses and run to their private islands to watch the ensuing chaos of the economy they destroyed and stole from. Bankers did the same thing in Iceland, and although they were allowed to go free at first, Iceland quickly changed its mind.
Bankers responsible for the economic downfall in Iceland are being rounded up like roaches, arrested, and put behind bars at an exponential rate. They are also being sued so that they will actually have to pay back the billions that are lining their pockets to the people they stole from. What a novel concept.
A recent Forbes article pointed out that the 2012 national audit of the Federal Reserve has been swept into the shadows by the media. It was the first audit of the Federal Reserve since its beginnings in 1913, and despite finding that the Federal Reserve illegally allocated over $16 trillion to corporations and banks all around the world, the findings are being looked over or, for the most part, stringently ignored.
Think about that for a second. The private institution that plays the role of the United States central bank gave out $16 trillion to non-American companies and banks without consent from congress or the American people while the American people struggle with over $14 trillion in debt.
Interestingly, the Icelandic economy is doing great. Why aren’t we doing the same thing? Instead of seeking justice for those responsible for our economic downfall, our money was illegally given to failing institutions to keep them afloat and we are still allowing the same people to continue running us into the ground.
These men and women are not unstoppable. By ignoring their crimes we are allowing them and their ilk to continue repressing and stealing from innocent, hard working people.

Suicide the Leading Cause of Injury Mortality in the United States

That’s right, currently, more people kill themselves than die in car crashes in the United States. A new study from the American Journal of Public Health has revealed a startling truth that many people are downright refusing to believe.
In the last decade suicide has increased by 15% while deaths from car accidents have decreased by 25%. Cars are safer, and people are more miserable.
According to the study:
“Suicide ranked first as a cause of injury mortality, followed by motor vehicle traffic crashes, poisoning, falls, and homicide. Females had a lower injury mortality rate than did males.”
Not to worry, I’m sure doctors have a solution up their sleeves. More anti-depressants!

Introducing Transparent Soil

Biologists have developed a new transparent soil to be able to study roots and root bacteria without disrupting their environment. The new soil is a composite of a material called nafion. Although it is not identical to real soil, the physical and chemical properties are extremely similar.
Plant biologist Laurent Laplaze stated that:
“This is a completely new way to look at roots in a more realistic setup than usually used. It is a major technical breakthrough that opens new avenues for plant physiology, plant breeding and the study of plant-microbe interactions.”
Scientists are confident this new creation will lead to improved crops and the identification of new ways of preventing outbreaks of food poisoning.

Aluminum Cans, Not Just the Soda, Leading to Obesity

The AMA has published a new study documenting a strong correlation between the ingestion of BPA and childhood/adult obesity.
BPA, an endocrine disruptor, is found in food packaging, water bottles, and most predominantly, in the lining of aluminum cans. Many scientists believe that endocrine disruptors are the kryptonite to regular humans, yet they are found in everything from toys, to cosmetics, to pesticides and our water supply.
The study found that teens with high levels of BPA in their urine were 2.6 times more likely to be obese and unhealthy than teens with lower levels, even after accounting for just about every factor you could imagine, including sex, race, diet, and income level. Studies are still ongoing as correlation does not equate to cause.
As more information and evidence is brought to light, it is becoming more and more apparent that health and obesity is not just defined by ‘calorie in, calorie out.’ Although proper diet and exercise is important, there are factors that we would be foolish to ignore.
Just as a side note, speaking from experience, drinking soda is an addiction. When you decide to remove it from your diet, you will quickly realize just how horrible it is for you. You begin to feel lighter, have more energy, and immediately see improvements in health. I have not touched soda in over 6 years, and every time I am offered some, and attempt to take a sip, my body gags as if I am ingesting a poison. That’s exactly what it is.
Don’t be a slave to your taste buds.

Dentistry: A Feared Profession, One of World’s Oldest

http://www.deumath.com A very early form of human dentistry took place at least 6,500 years ago. Researchers have discovered that early dentists used beeswax to fill cavities and treat tooth aches.
Dr Federico Bernardini states that:
“This finding is perhaps the most ancient evidence of pre-historic dentistry in Europe and the earliest known direct example of therapeutic-palliative dental filling so far.”
Other researchers have also dated tooth drilling to at least 9000 years old. Although it is unclear why the teeth were drilled, it may very well have been to alleviate pain.
No wonder we are so afraid of going to the dentist. The fear has been imprinted onto our genetic make up over the course of 1000’s of generations!
